Mr. Anthony Paul Anderson age 58 of Piping
Rock Drive Murphy passed away at his home on Tuesday Jan. 10, 2012
following an extended illness. Mr. Anderson was born on Feb. 28, 1953 in
Louisville, OH. The son of the late Virginia Frustaci Bridenphal.
Anthony was aloving husband, father, brother and was a friend to many.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Anderson are his loving
wife, Cynthia Hendershot Anderson of Murphy, one son and daughter in
law, Keith and Leslie Anderson of Port St. Lucie, FL., two sisters,
Kathy Conway of Louisville and Mary Alflen of Canton, OH., one brother,
Michael Anderson of Canton, OH., many other relatives and friends also
survive.
A memorial service will be held on
Saturday Jan. 14, 2012 at 6:00pm from the Covenant Baptist Church of
Murphy with the Rev. Calvin Murphy officiating. In lieu of flowers if
you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Covenant
Baptist Church, 490 Hwy 294 Murphy, NC. 28906 in Mr. Anderson’s memory.
The family will meet with friends following the services at the church.

Mr. Horace Cheek age 67 of Arkaqua Rd.
Blairsville passed away on Tuesday January 10, 2012 in the Landmark
Hospital in Athens following an extended illness. Mr. Cheek was born on
Sept. 23, 1944 in Hayesville, NC., the son of the late Charlie Cheek and
the late Lena S. Ferguson Cheek. Horace was a lifelong resident of Union
County. He was a loving brother, uncle and was a friend to many. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Ruth Jones Cheek who passed away
on Dec. 24, 2011. Mr. Cheek was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Cheek are one sister and
brother in law, Shirley and Edward Mashburn of Blairsville, three
brothers and sisters in law, William and Nedra Cheek of Blairsville,
Herman and Lavada Cheek of Blairsville, Jerry and Susie Cheek of
Blairsville, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends
also survive.
Funeral services will be held on
Saturday Jan.14, 2012 at 2:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the
Rev. Danny White officiating. Special music will be presented by the
Son’s of Light Singers. The following gentleman will serve as
pallbearers, James and Gary Cheek, Brian Mashburn, Dale Tanner, Derrick
Tanner and Eddie Beavers. The following gentleman will serve as honorary
pallbearers, Kevin Cheek, Tommy McAuliffe and Kenneth West. Interment
will follow in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery where he will rest next
to his wife, Ruth. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests
that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or t the
American Lung Association in memory of Mr. Cheek. The family will meet
with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8pm.

Mr. Charles Sherman “Shum” Bougher, 69, passed away
January 11, 2012.
Dad was born in Pennsylvania. The family moved to Florida
when he was very young. He joined the Army after high school. He served
in Germany. His former wife, Kathy Bougher resides in Marble, NC. He has
three children, Laurie Greene, Chrissy Bourne and Chip Bougher. He has
six grandchildren. His mom, Jean Bougher resides in Boone, NC. His
sister, Joan Shirley resides in Blowing Rock, NC.
Dad was an electrician and inspector in Jupiter and Martin
County, Florida.
He has lived in Blairsville, GA for seven years. My dad
drove a Union County Transportation in Blairsville.
Patty Cosentino, has been in my dad’s life for 15 years and
brought many cherished memories to our family. My dad and Patty traveled
around to many car shows. He won several awards at the Street Rod Shows.
Shum’s mom always said “He is a man of few words.”
Memorial services in Blairsville will be January 14, at 4:00
p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home. Memorial services in Florida will be
at a later date. There will be a small memorial service in Boone, NC for
Shum’s mom who resides at Glenn Bridge Nursing Home.

Mrs. Alberta Barris, age 93, of Murphy Hwy, Blairsville,
passed away, Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Stonehenge. She was born
December 4, 1918 daughter of the late Albert and Nora Brandt Konert. She
had lived here for the past 5 years coming here from Lawrenceville, Ga.
Mrs. Barris was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Barris in 1996.
She was of the Protestant Faith.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and
Douglas Myers of Blairsville, three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Melissa and
Kelly, seven great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In Lieu of
flowers make memorials to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
